ZigZag is looking for a Java Engineer to join our team! 

About our client

Our client is an established fintech company building the next generation of payments solutions. Our Tech Delivery Team owns our payment platform end-to-end, including critical backend systems that process high-volume, low-latency transactions securely and reliably. We’re currently looking for an experienced Java Engineer to help build, maintain, and evolve the core of our payment processing systems.

About the Role

As a Java Engineer in the Tech Delivery Team, you’ll work on developing and maintaining the core services responsible for card and PayTo payment authorisation and processing. You’ll be part of a cross-functional team focused on scalability, security, and performance.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications.

• Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices.

• Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality.

• Troubleshoot and debug issues in existing software.

• Work on improving performance, scalability, and reliability of our client's services.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of software development processes.

• Stay up-to-date with the latest Java technologies and best practices.

Qualifications

• Min 5 years of professional experience in backend development with Java.

• Experience building distributed systems and working on high-throughput backend services.

• Strong understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.

• Solid knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL systems.

• Experience with message brokers (Kafka, EventBridge, etc.) is a plus.

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools (e.g., BuildKite, etc).

• Familiarity with AWS.

• Strong problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team.
